Overview

Baldwin County Myotherapy Massage (BCMM) recently moved from Portland, OR to Foley, AL. In Portland they generated $90-100K in revenue annually. It took three years to establish previously. They asked me for a logo update, but I suggested a complete refresh. Our objective was to increase profitability and attract customers through positive word of mouth.

Approach

We used the Don Miller Story Brand to understand our audience and create a script that highlights BCMM's services and benefits. We made sure to use clear and engaging language, avoiding technical jargon that could deter audiences. Through our research, we discovered that word-of-mouth would be the most effective and cost-efficient marketing strategy for BCMM. Therefore, we focused on creating a website that is easily shareable and user-friendly, allowing people to easily convey BCMM's services to others.

Brand Script

I use the Story Brand Framework by Donald Miller to create outstanding brands. Working closely with Rien and Jessica Purvis, the owners, we carefully develop a script that defines specific goals, identifies the intended audience, sets the right tone, and features a captivating tagline. We continually gather feedback from people to ensure that our approach is working effectively.

Brand Identity

I revamped their logo and visual identity to focus on recover from pain and injuries. The previous logo was too intricate and difficult to decipher when scaled down. Since they offer medical massage services, it was appropriate to integrate a coastal spa ambiance into their branding.

Landing Page

Our online booking feature has greatly improved customer and business owner experiences by allowing clients to search, compare schedules, select treatments, and pay online. It has also reduced the number of phone calls and helped filter out undesired customers more effectively. Based on our estimate, the time spent on business administration has been reduced by 25-30%.

Results

After the site launched they were able to brake even with their monthly expenses in two months. By month three they had started to profit. On month nine they were projecting $190K a year. Foley has a smaller population than Portland, this means it should have been harder to develop this kind of revenue.

They were so excited, they flew, my wife and out to visit them for an all expenses paid vacation.

Lessons

It surprised us that the locals called Rien and Jessica's church to verify their memberships—at least three patients. Many people confirmed that word of mouth was the only way to grow in Foley. One customer stated that they don't do business with anyone.
